Design Review Process

In order to encourage workforce housing development that benefits the community, we have created a Design Review Program to provide developers with input and advice from local professionals before beginning the formal planning process in a municipality. Initially, a team of local land use and financing professionals develop a set of guidelines that we use to evaluate development projects in terms of how they would help to increase the supply of workforce housing in our region. Developers then come to us to ask that we review their project. The Design Review Team provides feedback to the developer through an informal process; if the development is consistent with the guidelines, the Coalition will issue a letter supporting the proposal, which the developer may choose to present to regulators during the review process. The process is confidential, so if a proposed development does not earn the Coalition's endorsement, there is no negative effect on the municipal review process.
