Outreach and Education

The Coalition provides information to communities and neighborhoods regarding the need for housing and proposes strategies to increase the housing supply. We work with residents and leaders in communities to increase understanding of how municipal land use ordinances can create opportunities for responsible and affordable housing. We also work with other non-profit organizations, developers, community groups, and municipalities to identify sources of funding and potential sites for housing development. Our core advocacy work operates on many levels including meeting with planners, developers, and other community leaders to keep the voice of workforce housing in the discussion.

Our educational efforts include our Business Leaders Breakfast event, which features presentations related to the workforce housing shortage and possible solutions. In addition, the Coalition has conducted numerous workshops and other events over the years to communicate about the need for workforce housing and strategies for its creation.

Recently, we also conducted an employee survey as part of the Upper Valley Lake Sunapee Regional Planning Commission's 2012 Housing Needs Analysis. We also collect rental data from local sources on a quarterly basis and provide this data to members of the community.

In addition to events that we hold, the Executive Director makes regular presentations at conferences and forums in the Upper Valley - and throughout New Hampshire and Vermont - discussing the workforce housing issue and advocating for policies which make it easier for this type of housing to be built. Copies of past presentations can be found int he Resource section of this site.
